Biography

Markus Bak was born in 1970 near Münster in Germany. After joining the school band and a youth orchestra, he studied jazz guitar at the Hoogeschool Enschede in NL. In 1998 he moved to Hamburg and completed the Kontaktstudiengang Popularmusic at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater.
Since then he has played in various jazz and blues bands, theatre productions and recorded music for TV and film.

His playing style encompasses traditional and modern jazz, and he is often described as a very bluesy and soulful player, influenced by players such as Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel, T Bone Walker and BB King. He loves to look beyond the expected.
